The former Meerweg long-distance cycle route led from Neustadt am Rübenberge through the North German Plain to Wilhelmshaven to the North Sea. The name Meer referred to the three (or 4) "Seas" Steinhuder Meer, Dümmer (lake), Zwischenahner Meer and North Sea.
The long-distance cycle path no longer exists since 2015. The signage has been removed (info).
