Territories and tourist destinations

In the mountain there are two parks: Sedda Ortai (average altitude: 740 m asl, extension: 15.69.27 ha of which pine and holm oak forest 14.23.34 ha) with the cycle path and the skating rink, and the Redentore park . Other important locations are Farcana with the municipal outdoor swimming pool and the riding school (formerly a clay football field), and Solotti which in the past housed a summer camp for children, of which only ruins remain, some recently renovated.

Not far from Solotti, on the opposite side of the road, is the Diocesan House "Centro Giovanile San Giovanni" (commonly known as the "Bishop's House"), used for spiritual meetings and retreats. There are also numerous sources, including Milianu and Sa Radichina, although most are currently dried up. On the top of the mountain, in the relief behind the Statue of the Redeemer, are the antennas of the radio and television repeaters.

At the foot of the mountain, in the localities of Borbore, "Janna Bentosa", "Maria Frunza", there are various domus de janas (literally "fairy houses"), tombs dating back to the Neolithic period.

At the top of the mountain there are two rural churches. the first, dating back to 26 April 1608, is dedicated to the Madonna del Monte Nero, founded by the brothers Pietro Paolo, Giovanni Angelo and Melchiorre Pirella. The second, dating back to the 1950s, is dedicated to San Giovanni Gualberto, patron saint of foresters. On the slopes of the mountain, in the locality of Goine, stands the church of Nostra Signora di Valverde, founded in 1685 by Nicolosa Manca Dejana. Not far from this, remain the ruins of the churches of Sa Itria (Vergine d'Odigitria) and Santu Jacu (San Giacomo), which probably already belonged to the medieval village of Gultudolfe in the extra-judicial small state of Girifai.

Located on the side of the road leading to the Sedda Ortai park is the so-called "sa conca" or "the mushroom"; it is a sheepfold obtained inside a huge rock, unique in Sardinia. In the rocks of Mount Ortobene it is also possible to climb, there is also the presence of paths marked by the forest that are easily passable for lovers of "picnics".

Coming down from the Parco del Redentore on the side opposite the city, you have a wonderful panoramic view of the valley and the mountains of Oliena, and on days without mist it is possible to see the sea of the Baronia in the distance.
