background
Johann Gottfried Herder was born here in 1744. The house where he was born no longer exists, but an exhibition in Dohna Palace at Ulica Dąbrowskiego 54 commemorates the philosopher. The palace once belonged to Count Heinrich zu Dohna-Schlobitten, who participated in the 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler and was executed for it. His house was destroyed towards the end of the war and rebuilt a few years ago. Today there is also a branch of the Museum of Warmia and Mazury there.
