Märkische bypass - Märkische Umfahrt

The Märkische Umfahrt is a 179 km long water hiking route in Brandenburg, Oder-Spree-Seengebiet southeast of Berlin. Through the Dahme Umflutkanal between Märkisch Buchholz and Unterspreewald, this route, completely covered in eight to twelve days, becomes a round trip, hence the name.

In order to travel the longer Spree section of the tour downstream, it is advisable to drive the route counter-clockwise as described below. The entry point, however, can be freely chosen. Anyone who uses the natural Spree arm at the Alte Tränke below Fürstenwalde, for example, can skip the only less attractive section of the round tour. From Kehrsdorfer Schleuse you paddle on a straightened federal waterway that is used by large inland vessels, so you could stop there too.
