About

Bogdana Monastery dates from the second half of the 14th century. The church of the monastery, with the role of royal necropolis, was founded by the founder of the Moldovan feudal state, Bogdan I of Moldova and is the first religious stone construction in this area. The church of the monastery (without tower) is dedicated to "St. Nicholas" and has been preserved in its original form until today. It consists of a porch, narthex, nave and altar. Above the side naves of the nave were built two vaulted rooms which can be reached on an interior staircase. Between the porch and the narthex and between the narthex and the nave are the partitions pierced by doors in the middle. The interior paintings were made during the time of Alexander the Great (1400-1432), restored during the reign of Stephen the Great, then in 1558 (during the time of Alexander the Great), to be repainted between 1745-1750, during the time of Bishop Iacob Putneanul.
