Monti Lucretili Natural Regional Park is a protected area located in Lazio.

Geographical notes

The regional park, still partly uncontaminated, is located on the limestone ridge of the pre-Lazio Apennines, extends for 18,000 hectares and its main nucleus is made up of the Lucretili Mountains. The highest peaks, Monte Pellecchia (1368 m) and Monte Gennaro (1271 m), stand out clearly visible N-E of Rome.

The territory of the park includes 13 municipalities of the Sabina andCentral Lazio Apennines: License, Marcellina, Monteflavio, Montorio Romano, Moricone, Orvinio, Palombara Sabina, Percile, Poggio Moiano, Roccagiovine, San Polo dei Cavalieri, Scandriglia is Vicovaro.

Flora and fauna

Flora

Fauna

As for the fauna, note the "return" of the wolf and bear and the nesting of a pair of golden eagles on the slopes of Monte Pellecchia.

To reach the north-western side of the protected area:

  • exit N ° 8 of the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) of Rome for the SS 4 Via Salaria towards Rieti (vice versa for those coming from the Rieti capital), which leads to the centers of Orvinio, Scandriglia, Poggio Moiano (extreme northern limit of the Park), as well as Montorio Romano, Moricone, Monteflavio and Palombara Sabina to the west.

  • Orvinio - Le Pratarelle - Cima Casarene. Path of medium difficulty, due to the vegetation that invades the path, of 4 hours and 30 minutes with a difference in height of 300 meters. Signposts: red-white-red nos. 308, 309. It starts from the cjiesa di Vallebuona near the town of Orvinio.
  • Villa Di Orazio - Nymphaeum Degli Orsini - North Face Of Colle Rotondo - Fosso Vena Crossing Written. 4-hour route on a 500-meter difference in altitude that can be done all year round.
