Pathein(Burmese: ပုသိမ်မြို့, IPA: [pəθèiɴ mjo̰]) (also Bassein) is the capital city of Ayeyarwady region in Myanmar.

- Yangon - Buses run from the Dagon bus station outside the city (MMK 6,000). For the journey from the center of Yangon to the bus station is MMK 7,000

In the street
The most common way to get there is from Yangon from about 70 kilometers away Nyaungdon (Yandoon). A ride from Pyay off is possible, but extremely cumbersome and not recommended.
By boat
A very nice way to enjoy the landscape of the Ayeyarwaddy region is to travel by ship from Yangon out. The express ship offers space on deck ($ 7.00) as well as cabins with two beds ($ 33-42 per person).
