Playa Blanca is a resort on the southern tip of the island Lanzarote. A small fishing village has become the third largest tourist center on the island in the last few decades, but things are a bit quieter than in Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise.

background

The place Playa Blanca has around 11,000 inhabitants and belongs to the municipality Yaiza. The actual town center Centro Urbano is grouped around a small beach, along which a promenade stretches past the ferry port to the west in the direction of the extinct volcano Montaña Roja. To the east you first come to the Playa Dorada and to the marina Marina Rubicon. Further to the east is the old tower of the Castillo de las Coloradas on the Punta del Aquila. Nearby you can see a church tower and a volcanic cone. But here you should take a closer look: both belong to the 5-star hotel Volcanwhich is built in the style of a Lanzarote village. In general, the place with its around 40 hotel complexes is very strongly geared towards tourism.

getting there

Playa Blanca: Puerto Rubicón marina, Fuerteventura in the background

Many tourists come to Lanzarote by plane. From the airport it's on the LZ-2 around 30 km to Playa Blanca. An alternative is to travel by ship: from the neighboring island Fuerteventura Ferries run every hour, one with the sleek catamaran from Fred Olson (20 min), and the other with the more comfortable car ferry from Armas (approx. 30 min). Cost for a one-way trip: a little more than € 20. There is a bus to the other larger towns, the bus station is close to the exit to LZ-2.

mobility

It seems like a Canarian village with a volcanic cone, in fact it is a 5-star hotel

Playa Blanca is quite long and relatively flat. The port and the old town center can be explored on foot, otherwise the use of a bus or taxi is recommended. The essential points can also be reached quite easily by bike.

Tourist Attractions

Special sights are not to be expected in this holiday resort. At most the surroundings of the Punta del Aquila one can count among them, also worth seeing further east the bays of the Playas de Papagayo. The access to these beaches is subject to a toll, alternatively you can also get to these bathing bays by boat.

There are smaller shopping malls in the tourist districts, and most of their sales are made at takeaways and slot machines.
