Tomaszów Poviat lies in Poland, in voivodeship of Lodz. Tomaszów Mazowiecki is the seat of the poviat authorities.

General information

The Tomaszów Poviat within its present borders was created as a result of the administrative reform in 1999.

Geography

It is located in the central-eastern part of the Łódzkie Voivodeship at the meeting point of Wzniesienia Łódzkie, Wysoczyzna Rawska, Dolina Białobrzeska and Plain Piotrkowska. The topography is varied, the main elements of the landscape are river valleys, forest areas and low hills of various origins. Area: 1025 km², inhabited by 120,500 inhabitants. The poviat has an industrial and agricultural character, forests cover 30.8% of the area. The poviat consists of one city and 10 rural communes.

fauna and Flora

In order to protect the resources of the natural environment, various forms of nature protection have been established - two landscape parks (Spała Landscape Park and partially Sulejów Landscape Park), two protected landscape areas - Górna Rawka and Piliczańsko-Radomski, 10 nature reserves (mainly forest, e.g. Żądłowice nature reservebut also famous "Blue Springs" landscape reserve) and a branch of the Kampinos National Park in Smardzewice, where the Bison Breeding Center is located, as well as about 240 natural monuments.

History

Historically, the poviat is situated on the outskirts of three great historical districts Mazovia, Lesser Poland and Greater Poland. In the Middle Ages, the area developed quite dynamically, as evidenced by the then numerous municipal locations (including Budziszewice, Ujazd, Będków, Inowłódz).
