- Chamdo (昌都 鎮; Chāngdū Zhèn or Qamdo) - Capital of the prefecture.
- Baxoi County (八宿 县; Bāsù Xiàn or Pashoe) - The county is located on the upper reaches of the Salween.
- County of Dêngqên (丁 青县; Dīngqīng Xiàn) - On the border with Qinghai.
- Markam County (芒康 县; Mángkāng Xiàn) - Near the border with Sichuan.
- Riwoqê County (類烏齊 縣; Lèiwūqí Xiàn or Riwoche) - Riwoche Monastery became the seat of Taklung Kagyu, one of the four main schools of the Kagyu sect.
