mobility

Map of Prüm

As in many parts of Rhineland-Palatinate, mobility in the Eifel and Prüm means having your own car. Local public transport is practically non-existent with the exception of a few main routes. Everything can be done very easily on foot within Prüm. It's a bit more difficult by bike due to the hillside location. Bus connections to Trier or Bitburg are possible from Prüm. The Cycle path network in and around Prüm is now well built and occasionally runs on old railway lines. This has the advantage that, as an exception, there are only gentle inclines or slight inclines (depending on the direction of travel) in the otherwise very hilly landscape. The Hiking trails are also well developed and adequately signposted.

security

On the whole, the entire Eifel can be considered safe, even if the subjective perception of many residents says otherwise. In the border area D-L-B there can always be vehicle controls - especially with foreign license plates. The investigators are looking for drugs and black money that should change borders. However, the usual safety measures such as locking the bike should be sufficient in Bitburg and the surrounding area. If something does happen: The police station at Tiergartenstrasse 82 is manned 24 hours a day.

health

The usual doctors can be found on site. Likewise pharmacies. Responsibilities can be found in Emergency service plan.

Practical advice

The three German cellular networks have been expanded in Prüm. In the Eifel there are still dead spots over long distances in which there is no network at all. So don't always rely on the cell phone and certainly not on a good data connection. Only the Telekom network is fairly well represented in the area. Broadband internet connections are also found in vain in many villages. For many people in the communication age, the digital stone age begins just a few kilometers outside of the city: status reports on social media or tips from WikiVoyage are not possible without a network. Deutsche Post still operates a branch at Bahnhofstrasse 32. Parking is limited. There are also several postal agencies in the city.
