Gerolstein is a state-approved climatic health resort in the West German Kylltal.

Gerolstein is known for the mineral water of the same name, which is bottled here. Although the district is called Vulkaneifel, the place is located in a limestone basin and derived from it in the Gerolsteiner Kalkeifel.

Next major city is Bitburg; The public transport connections to the main town are moderate, as the train only goes to the Erdorf district. Anyway, the travel time is in the more distant trier significantly shorter; self Cologne can be reached more quickly on weekends.

There is a tourist information office in the train station.

The toilets for the disabled in the train station are being misused as storage space for the bakery there, while those at the administration center cannot be accessed with the Euro key, i.e. effectively not usable in both cases.

The cycling and hiking trails around Gerolstein are well signposted. Stages 9 and 10 of the Eifelsteig are quite demanding.
