Cycling routes in Austria - Radrouten in Österreich

The popular holiday destination also has attractive cycling routes. A well-known classic is the Danube Cycle Path between Passau and Vienna. The topography presents the cyclist with some challenges every now and then. The type of signposting of the routes is determined by the respective federal state.

National routes

  • Drau cycle path: Sillian - Lavamünd 250 km; Difference in altitude: 540 m (Sillian-Spittal), 210 m (Spittal-Lavamünd), continuation in Slovenia.

  • Enns Cycle Path: Flachau (Gasthofalm) - Enns (Connection to the Danube Cycle Path) 250 km; Often runs on local roads that still exist in the valley of the Enns except for the railway line and the federal road 115.   • Murradweg: Muhr - Bad Radkersburg 340 km (with bike tour to Sticklerhütte 365 km); Height difference 1,000 m from Muhr (1,700 m from the Sticklerhütte)
  • Neusiedler See - bike path: e.g. Neusiedl am See or any other place along the cycle path - 135 km circuit (38 km of which are on Hungarian territory)
  • Roman way: Passau (or Schärding) - Attersee 130 km; Difference in altitude 370 m
  • Via Claudia Augusta: Donauwörth (Bavaria) - Altino near Venice or Ostiglia on the Po ~ 700 km; Elevation difference 1,450 meters

  • Kremstal cycle path R10 - Upper Austria - 57 km from Traun to Klaus at the Phyrnbahn along the Krems
  • Jubilee cycle path - Burgenland - 300 km from Kittsee to Kalch
  • Mühltal Cycle Path R26- Upper Austria - 28 km uphill: 459 m, downhill: 195 m - Obermühl an der Donau - Rohrbach - Schlägl am Grenzlandradweg, further via Aigen in the Mühlkreis to the Vltava reservoir in southern Bohemia, from there via Budweis and Prague to the Elbe. Bike transport

By train

In Austria, you can take bicycles directly with you on regional, regional express and S-Bahn trains that are marked accordingly and on many IC and EC trains. As a rule, a separate ticket must be purchased and shown on request.
