Route profile

  • Length: 57 km
  • Signposting: continuously with additional logos according to ADFC recommendation. Each sign post also has a sticker with the post number and telephone number of the ADFC-HI. Damage can be reported immediately. Defects in the signage rarely occur and are usually rectified at very short notice.
  • Slopes: few gradients, only a bit more demanding between Bodenburg and Lamspringe
  • Path condition: Continuously asphalted up to 10 km, fine gravel in floodplains, short stretches of cobblestone in through-towns
  • Traffic load: very low

  • Family suitability: Yes. Only the stretch between Bodenburg and Lamspringe is not suitable for preschool children.
  • Inline suitability: The Lamspringe - Bad Gandersheim section is ideally suited: former railway line, only 3% gradient, largely free of crossings, fine asphalt.

The cycle path to art runs in a north-south direction in the river valleys of the Innerste, Lamme and Gande through the entire district of Hildesheim. Art treasures from the rich historical past as well as contemporary art can be discovered along the way.

Sarstedt station

The end points of the cycle path can be reached by train. In the north the Sarstedt train station and in the south Bad Gandersheim train station are the closest. There are other train stations along the route in Hildesheim, Groß Düngen, Bad Salzdetfurth and Bodenburg.

By bicycle

In the district of Schliekum (city of Sarstedt) the cycle path to art is via the Leine-Heide cycle path reachable. In Bad Gandersheim he is at the Europa-Radweg-R1 (D3) connected.

  • 1 In the district Schliekum (City of Sarstedt) the cycle path begins and ends after 200m on a dark ravine with coarse cobblestones and a no-entry sign. Only if you look closely you will see the small addition "pedestrians and cyclists free". So go on. The path leads to the old wooden one 2 Leine bridge . Then it goes on better ways through big ones 3 Gravel mining areas towards Sarstedt. Most of the gravel ponds are now used for recreational purposes. You can swim and surf at the nearby "Giften Lakes" and fish at the numerous smaller ponds.
  • In Sarstedt you can use the new underpass (push!) under the old one 4 Sarstedt train station through. The bike path only touches the city on the edge, the pedestrian zone with retail shops and adventure pool (indoor and outdoor pool) are approx. 200 m away. If you have never heard of Sarstedt, you may have heard the music of the "Scorpions". They founded their band here.
  • On the way to Giesen immediately falls the huge one 5 Kalimanjaro Dump of the temporarily closed potash mine. The color of the mountain is said to predict the weather. White means sunny, gray, rainy weather. At least that's what the Gieseners say. With the Giesener Mountains, the first hills of the Harz foreland are now in sight. But our bike path always leads along the river valleys and remains level for the time being.
  • At the innermost, the path continues through that 6 Nature experience area "Kleeblatt" after Hildesheim. Although it approaches the city center up to approx. 500m there, you hardly notice the big city traffic. The cycle path runs right next to the river through the entire city. A street only has to be crossed twice. There the way is secured by traffic lights. If you cycle past the open-air pool "Johanniswiese", you should get one here at the latest 7 Make a detour to Hildesheim's old town. The cathedral and Michaeliskirche are outstanding Romanesque structures and gave this part of the cycle path its name.
  • The cycle path to art continues along the dams along the Innerste Marienburg. A university art institute is housed in the old domain. A small 8 Hofcafé and a school museum are worth a break.
  • Between Marienburg and Large fertilizing the route crosses the innermost on the 9 Laves Bridge. It is so called because the wooden construction was modeled on the bridges of the famous architect of the Kingdom of Hanover Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves.

  • From ( 1 Groß Düngen station it is mainly on back roads with little traffic to Klein Düngen. From here on, the cycle route follows the Lamme river.
  • In Bad Salzdetfurth the path runs parallel to the railway line on 2 Kurpark with brine bath and stop along the Lammetalbahn. The Lamme is crossed in the center of the village. At the through-town you can see some planet models on the right that lead to the 4 km long 3 Planetary road belong. On the square in front of the Hotel Kronprinz is the 4 Soltmann sculpture . It was created in 1986 during a six-week contact art campaign and has since become one of the city's landmarks.
