Ratschings(Italian: Racines) is a community in South-Tirol. It has around 4,400 inhabitants and, with an area of ​​203 km², is the largest municipality in the district community Wipptal. Ratschings is surrounded by the Stubai Alps and lies in the valley system of the Ridnauntal, side valleys are the Ratschingstal and the Jaufental.

  • Of the A22 Coming from the Brenner motorway: exit Sterzing on the SS44Strada Statale 44 del Passo di Giovo. Wolfsthurn Castle
  • 1 Wolfsthurn Castle lies on a hill above Mareit. Around 1200 a simple defense tower was built at this point, which came into the possession of the Counts of Tyrol in 1242. The castle received its current baroque appearance between 1727 and 1741. With its 365 windows, it is considered the most beautiful castle in South Tyrol. A museum has been housed in the walls since 1996:

Gilfenklamm
  • 2  Gilfenklamm. The Ratschinger Bach has created its way through the white marble rock in the Gilfenklamm. The gorge has a height difference of 175 m.Open: Beg. May-early November daily 9 am-5pm, July and Aug 9 am-6pm.Price: Admission adults € 4, children € 2.
Mining Museum on the Schneeberg
  • 3  South Tyrolean Mining Museum on the Schneeberg, Mayern 48. Tel.: 39 472 656364. The museum at the foot of the Schneeberg includes the facilities for mining, processing and transporting ore, and there is a show tunnel. At the heyday of the mine in the late Middle Ages, there were over 1000 miners in the Ridnaun Valley. The ores were mined at altitudes of up to 2,700 m.
