background

Raʾs el-Ghazlānī is located on the northern tip of Marsā Bureika / Bareika, the Bureika Bay (Arabic:مرسى بريكة). This place has not been open to the public for a long time. The now accessible areas have been marked with a red-green sign above the water.

Because of the late opening, there is a fairly intact underwater world and one of the healthiest coral gardens.

getting there

Divers usually travel on a day trip boat from the jetty jetty) in the south of the Naʿama Bay from Sharm esch-Sheikh or from the jetty in Old Sharm. The goal is also in the context of the so-called north route to Strait of Gūbāl driven by safari boats.

There are no anchorages for the ships.

Tourist Attractions

Due to the lack of anchorages, the dive can only be carried out as a drift dive. The direction depends on the current, which is usually only weak. Usually the current is north to south, so the dive starts north of the cape, wraps around the cape and ends in Bureika Bay.

The coral reef rises from the sandy subsoil at a depth of about 12 meters and ends about half a meter below the surface of the water. The sand level drops to 25 to 30 meters before the reef drops steeply into the sea.

It is advisable not to head for such great depths and to dive at a depth of about 5 to 8 meters. The underwater world includes table corals, gorgonians, hard corals (Porites) and soft corals. The residents of the reef garden include puffer fish, groupers, bat fish, trigger fish, anemonefish, blue spotted rays and moray eels. And with a lot of luck you will also meet dolphins and manta rays.

Kitchen and accommodation

Meals are provided on the day boats. Accommodation can be found in Sharm esch-Sheikh or Dahab.

trips

Visiting the reef can be compared to other reefs in the Raʾs Muḥammad National Park or other local diving areas of Sharm esch-Sheikh connect.
