Geographical notes

Fraction of Bonorva from which it is 6 km away, it is located in the historical region of Meilogu.

Background

In the Giudicato period, Rebeccu was an important center of the Meilogu. Feud of the Kingdom of Arborea appears for the first time in documents of the 1300s in which it was the capital of the curatoria of Costa de Addes (or Costavalle) and the residential seat of the Curator. With its 400 inhabitants it was the most important and populated center in the area and the villas of Bonorva and Semestene and the village of Trequiddo were subordinate to it. In 1353 it was invaded and set on fire by Rambaldo de Corbera, who was at war with Mariano IV d'Arborea. On 14 January 1388, in the square in front of the church of Santa Maria (today Santa Giulia), the representatives of the curatoria of Costa de Addes gathered to approve the peace treaty between King John I of Aragon and the Judge Eleonora d'Arborea (Ultima Pax Sardiniae, signed in Cagliari on 24 January 1388).

Starting from the 15th century, probably due to plagues and famines, the decline of Rebeccu begins: a census of 1485 indicates a number of inhabitants between 280 and 350 with 70 fires recorded, which decreased to 228 and 57 fires in 1589. In ' 600 there were 27 families (39 males and 41 females); one hundred and fifty inhabitants at the end of the 19th century, six families in the 1950s and only one resident since January 2007.

Rebeccu became a hamlet of Bonorva on December 31, 1875.
