The Recknitz-Trebeltal office was created in 2004 from the merger of the Bad Sülze, Trebeltal and Tribsees offices.

Tribsees was probably the site of a Slavic castle around the year 1000. It was first mentioned in a document in 1136. From the 14th century it was an important border crossing between Mecklenburg and Pomerania. After the Thirty Years War it belonged to the Swedish part of Pomerania. The city was badly damaged in a fire in 1702. From 1827 a royal Prussian main customs office was located here, which was responsible for land trade with Mecklenburg, with the establishment of the North German Confederation and the abolition of customs borders in 1867, it lost its function. In 1895 Tribsees was connected to the railroad. The population has fallen sharply in recent times: instead of 4,264 in 1970, there were only 2,561 inhabitants in 2011.

Sülze means “place at the salt spring”. 1229 brine springs and salt pans are documented here. Sülze received town charter in 1260 at the latest. The city was almost completely destroyed in the Thirty Years War. From 1807 to 1830 the saltworks again had great economic importance. The spa operation began in 1822 and the spa house was established two years later. In 1927 it was officially recognized as a health resort and thus renamed to bath Brawn. The health clinic was closed in 1993, instead there is now a modern "median clinic". The master gardener of the spa park has planted thousands of dahlias since 1980. The Dahlia Festival has been celebrated every summer since 1981.
