Regenstauf was first mentioned in a document around 970, the castle belonging to the Duchy of Upper Bavaria was destroyed in 1266 in the campaign of the Bohemian King Ottokar against the Bavarian dukes - already in 1326 the town of Regenstauf had market rights again.
