Tourist Attractions

The two castles are worth seeing Buonas and Freudenberg. Buonas Castle is located on the castle peninsula between Buonas and Risch, under the Chilchberg. The castle and the castle park are privately owned by F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG. A castle originally stood on the site, the origin of which, the construction date is unknown, can be dated back at least to the 11th century. Due to the marriage of Adelheid von Buonas with Ulrich von Hertenstein, the castle and rulership passed to the Hertenstein family for around 400 years around the year 1250. In 1478 Buonas Castle burned down with many valuable family documents (it is believed that it was arson), after which the castle was "restored". In 1380 the castle was bought by the Muri monastery. In the 17th century, the meanwhile miserable, old castle was torn down and rebuilt as a castle (without moats and walls) on a sheltered slope next to the old castle. From 1873 to 1877 that was new lock built in the castle park and demolished again in 1969. Today there are two more farmhouses on the grounds of the park, right next to the castle, and the gardener's family's house on the site of the former "new castle". In 2003, F. Hoffmann-La Roche opened their training center in Risch, on the edge of the castle park. The park is open to visitors once a year, but it is not known when Freudenberg Castle was built. It stands near Dersbach on a knoll behind a forest with a clear view of Lake Zug. The palace is modeled on the French Palace of Versailles and is now privately owned. The park and gardens are also located around the castle. The castle can be seen well from the seaside resort Zweijern.

The parish church St. Verena Risch is the oldest church in the municipality and one of the oldest in the canton of Zug. It lies high above Lake Zug and forms the center of the village of Risch. In 2004 new, modern houses were built right next to the Tyrolean houses. This outrage about the picture was offset by the Italian-looking apartment buildings in the last gap in Küntwil.
