Tourist Attractions

The two castles are worth seeing Buonas and Freudenberg. Buonas Castle is located on the castle peninsula between Buonas and Risch, under the Chilchberg. The castle and the castle park are privately owned by F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG. A castle originally stood on the site, the origin of which, the construction date is unknown, can be dated back at least to the 11th century. Due to the marriage of Adelheid von Buonas with Ulrich von Hertenstein, the castle and rulership passed to the Hertenstein family for around 400 years around the year 1250. In 1478 Buonas Castle burned down with many valuable family documents (it is believed that it was arson), after which the castle was "restored". In 1380 the castle was bought by the Muri monastery. In the 17th century, the meanwhile miserable, old castle was torn down and rebuilt as a castle (without moats and walls) on a sheltered slope next to the old castle. From 1873 to 1877 that was new lock built in the castle park and demolished again in 1969. Today there are two more farmhouses on the grounds of the park, right next to the castle, and the gardener's family's house on the site of the former "new castle". In 2003, F. Hoffmann-La Roche opened their training center in Risch, on the edge of the castle park. The park is open to visitors once a year, but it is not known when Freudenberg Castle was built. It stands near Dersbach on a knoll behind a forest with a clear view of Lake Zug. The palace is modeled on the French Palace of Versailles and is now privately owned. The park and gardens are also located around the castle. The castle can be seen well from the seaside resort Zweijern.

The parish church St. Verena Risch is the oldest church in the municipality and one of the oldest in the canton of Zug. It lies high above Lake Zug and forms the center of the village of Risch. It belongs to the parish of Risch. Another church attraction is the chapel of wooden houses, which is also very vivid in the evening. It forms the center of the village of wooden houses.

Also worth seeing is the adventure tree opened in 2000 in the Sijentalwald in Rotkreuz. The adventure tree is a frame made of wood, which is built around a fir tree. On each floor of the adventure tree there are information boards about the respective tree floor. On the top floor you have a very good view of the landscape and Lake Zug. It is a destination for families with children and schools.

You can play golf on the Golfpark Rotkreuz-Holzhäusern of the Ennetsee Golf Club. The golf park has a 6- and an 18-hole course and runs from Buonas along the railway line to Hünenberg-Kemmatten. He is the largest of the Central Switzerland.

Another attraction is the Breitfeld model railway, which depicts the landscape around Rotkreuz and is open every first Sunday of the month. (However, the model railway was dismantled in 2016 and is no longer in operation)

architecture

Houses of all types and shapes can be found in the municipality of Risch-Rotkreuz. From villas to skyscrapers, from farms to modern brick houses.

in the Rotkreuz town center are, because of the development for 150 years, mainly modern buildings and traditional farms to be found. The town center will be until 2020[outdated] Totally modernized: old buildings are being torn down and replaced by new ones, not so old buildings are being rebuilt. The aim is to build a completely covered shopping street. In addition, the municipality wants to close the Luzerner-Buonaserstrasse and direct traffic over the new bypass. The only two old buildings will then be today's Gasthof Kreuz (formerly Gasthof Rothkreuzhof) and the Rothkreuzhof.

In the Rotkreuzer district Waldeten the consequences of the community project to make the houses more colorful can be seen very clearly. Many houses that are being renovated or newly built are painted with different colors. Special colorful streets in Rotkreuz are the Waldetenstrasse, the Untere Weidstrasse or the Lindenmatt. The flat roof houses in Weidstrasse are now all being painted in color.

In Küntwil all types of houses can be found. The first residential buildings were built here in the 1950s. Before that there were only two farms. In the 1990s, Tyrolean houses and new types of single-family buildings were built here. It was not until the brick houses were built in Eichmatt that Küntwil became a separate district. In 2004 new, modern houses were built right next to the Tyrolean houses. This outrage about the picture was offset by the Italian-looking apartment buildings in the last gap in Küntwil.

In Buonas and Risch In addition to a few old farms, you will find beautiful single-family houses and villas, which are located on the slope with an unobstructed view of Lake Zug. The first multi-family buildings were erected in Risch in 2007. The image of the two places is of course still given by the locks Buonas and Freudenberg added.

In Wooden houses new meets old: until 2000 the village had no village character, as there was only one chapel and a few houses. In 2000 the development St. Wendelin built, which doubled the number of inhabitants in wooden houses. A new, modern development is to be opened in 2009 - it is to be the most modern development in the canton of Zug. It is a building complex with apartments with a view of Lake Zug, which has not yet been the case with any of the houses.

The Roche Diagnostics has built a skyscraper in the north of Rotkreuz to mark the headquarters in Rotkreuz. In addition, the number of buildings is increased from three buildings to ten buildings. The number of employees rose to 1,000 in autumn 2007, and 300 new jobs were created. Roche focuses on modernity. She builds buildings that resemble honeycombs, others simply with square motifs.
