From Chiang Mai it takes 12-13 hours (fare 638 Baht), from Phitsanulok 6½ hours, from Ubon Ratchathani just under three hours. (As of April 2016)

Phra Phuttha Rattana
  • Wat Klang Ming Mueang (วัดกลาง มิ่ง เมือง). Buddhist temple from the late Ayutthaya epoch with a four-tier tower, wall paintings and a remarkable ordination hall (ubosot).
  • Wat Burapha Phiram (วัด บูรพา ภิ ราม). With the 59 meter high Phra Phuttha Rattana (colloquial Luangpho Yai), the tallest statue of the standing Buddha in Thailand.
  • Bueng Phalan Chai (บึง พลาญ ชัย). Public park on an island in a lake in the middle of the city; popular recreation area for locals and guests. Here you can walk, have a picnic, go pedal boating; there are playgrounds for children.
  • Roi Et National Museum. Dedicated to culture of Isan. Objects of art, textiles and handicraft techniques that illustrate traditional everyday life in the region are exhibited.

  • Bun Phra Wet. Three days in March in Srinagarindra Park and Phalan Chai Lake. Festival for the symbolic return of Vessantara (Thai: Wetsandon or Phra Wet), one of the earlier incarnations of the Buddha (there are 547 in Theravada Buddhism Jatakas - Stories about the Buddha's previous lives before he became Siddharta Gautama and found enlightenment). According to the story, Vessantara was a very generous prince who is considered a role model in charity. There are several parades through the city, painted scrolls with the story of the Phra Wet are shown as well as cultural performances and the Jataka story is recited in public.

  • Wat Pa Kung. A temple built in honor of the revered monk Luang Pu Sri, which gave the complex its appearance Borobudur imitated on Java; 20 km southeast of Roi Et, on road no. 20145 towards Wapi Pathum, about half an hour by car.
  • Ban Wai Luem. Center of silk production with demonstration workshops and factory outlet; 25 km east of Roi Et, on national road 23 towards Yasothon, about half an hour by car.
  • Ku Ka Sing. Ruins of an 11th century Khmer temple; a good 60 km south of Roi Et, on the national road 214, towards Chaturaphak Phiman and Kaset Wisai, about an hour by car.
  • Wat Pha Nam Yoi. With the Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkhon, one of the largest pagodas in Thailand; approx. 90 km northeast of Roi Et, on roads no. 2044 and 2136 in the direction of Mukdahan, about 1½ hours by car.
