With the bus one reaches Phitsanulok from Bangkok's northern Mo Chit bus station. The 3 Phitsanulok Bus Terminal 1 for local transport is in the center of the city. The new 4 Terminal 2 for long-distance traffic is about 6 km further east. The state-owned bus company The Transport Co. Ltd. offers three buses a day in each direction. The journey takes about 5 hours and costs 290 or 451 baht per person and route, depending on the car class (as of March 2015). Many private bus companies are added, so that overall there is a dense cycle. Comfort and prices are about the same.

The private bus company Phetprasert offers several daily connections between Khon Kaen and Phitsanulok. The journey takes around 6 hours. Prince Naris discovered the remains in 1901. In the 20th century there was a school on the site. In 1993 the Department of Fine Arts began the archaeological excavation and the school was relocated. From 2005 the palace was rebuilt as true to the original as possible. Today it houses a museum.

King Naresuan statue
  • 9  Statue of King Naresuan on the Naresuan University campus (13 km southwest of the city center). The larger than life statue (2.80 m high, approx. 2 tons heavy) of the former warrior king shows him in combat clothing sitting on the throne and pouring water from a golden container; this symbolizes the end of the vassal relationship with Burma and thus the newly won independence of the Ayutthaya Empire. The model for the face was an original model by Prof. Silpa Bhirasri.
  • 10  Historic station building. Designed by the German architect Karl Döhring and built from 1906 to 1912, the style is based on central and southern German half-timbered buildings.
  • 11  Lak Müang. Shrine with the city column or the "navel of the city", the symbolic center of the city and province.

Kuai Tiao means noodle (soup) and Hoi Kha "Let your legs dangle". The name refers to the fact that you can dangle your legs from the parapet while dining on the upper floor. But at lunchtime it can be difficult to get a seat here.

  • Valley of the Wang Thong River (also Khaek) with its waterfalls
  • Phichit (55 km south, 40 minutes by train) - The city is the setting for the legend of the crocodile king, which is illustrated by a crocodile park.
  • Sukhothai Historical Park. The historical park with the ruins of the former capital is approx. 75 kilometers from Phitsanulok (a good 1 hour drive). Sukhothai (New Town) can be reached by bus in around 1 hour for 30–54 baht. There you can click on a Songthaeo (Transporter with benches on the loading area) change, which brings you to the historical park for 20 baht.
  • A recommended excursion takes you along the well-developed national road 12 to the east Lom Sak (approx. 120 km).
