Nakhon Phanom(Thai: นครพนม) is the capital of the homonymous province in Northeast Thailand.

By plane

Nakhon Phanom Airport (KOP), which is located approx. 15 km west of the city, is served daily by Thai AirAsia and Nok Air. The flight time is about 1 hour 15 minutes. The standard price is around 2,500 baht each way, but temporary savings prices are often offered, which can start at 780 baht.

Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge

Nakhon Phanom is about 740 kilometers northeast of Bangkok. A bus ride from the north Bus station Mo Chit takes about 11 hours. The price is - depending on the car class - between 396 and 792 baht.

There are also frequent bus connections from / to Udon Thani (160–210 Baht, 4½ hours), from / to Nong Khai there are four connections a day (200 baht, 6½ hours).

The Third Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge has been around 12 km north of the city center since 2011. A border crossing from Laos (Thakhek) is easily possible there.

  • Lai Ruea Fai. Procession with illuminated boats on the Mekong Ok Phansa, the end of the retreat for Buddhist monks, in October. The tradition is explained by the legend that the Buddha spent his retreat time in heaven and is greeted with illuminated boats on his return to earth. The companions are impressively decorated with flowers, incense sticks, candles and lanterns with which - according to popular belief - you can send away everything sad and negative.
