the Tunisian Sahara is the southern and western part of the Tunisia, mainly occupied by deserts. In addition to sand dunes, rocky plains and oases, there are salt lakes which are dry most of the year but also important archaeological sites.

The Tunisian Sahara, grouping together the arid steppes of the west of the country and the deserts of the south, is a region of the Tunisia mainly frequented for its landscapes, although the historical and cultural heritage is not negligible.   • 4 Sufetula (Sbeitla)  – A fairly well preserved Roman city.
  • 5 Ghomrassen  – Cave dwellings and Ksar Hadada, a well-known Ksar in the region, very visited by tourists. The ksar has now partly become a hotel where tourists stop. Part of it was used by director George Lucas in the movie Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace to create the village of Mos Espa, on the planet Tatooine, where Anakin Skywalker was born.
  • 6 Gafsa  – Golf field.
  • 7 Tozeur  – Golf course and one of the largest palm groves in Tunisia.

  • Gabes - Beaches and communication node.
  • Kairouan - An important place of Islamic pilgrimage, with the Great Mosque and the Barber Mosque. The medina is to be visited as well as the Aghlabid Basins.
  • Sousse - The city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architecture. It is a popular seaside resort with many interesting sites: fortifications, great mosque, ribat, kasbah and medina.
