Around
Santo Domingo does not have any beaches, the closest beaches are those of Boca Chica, Juan Dolio and a little further La Romana and Bayahibe for the East Caribbean coast. To the west there are the wilder and more popular beaches of Playa Palenque, Playa Najayo and the famous Bani dunes.
In the near surroundings of the capital there are not really any important tourist sites even if the Dominican countryside is beautiful and welcoming.
