About 100 km south of Salzburg, at the St. Michael exit of the Tauern motorway (A 10), the town of 3,500 people is located on a wide plateau. It is embedded in the alpine mountains of the Niedere Tauern and the Nockberge with seven romantic side valleys, peaks up to 2500 meters high, alpine pastures, sunny plateaus, around 60 mountain lakes, countless mountain streams and waterfalls. Over 50 managed alpine pastures and mountain inns offer skiers, hikers, cyclists and mountain bikers relaxation, rest and culinary delights - many of them also "filling stations" for e-bikes. The valley bus drives to all valleys of the Lungau during the summer holidays.

St. Michael is located in a valley at the foot of the Speiereck mountain. In the south is the Katschberg with the Katschbergpass and the Aineck mountain. Samson

The Samson has been documented since 1635 and symbolizes an Old Testament figure with superhuman powers - lying in his long hair. He depicts the fight of the Jews against the Philistines, after which he killed 1,000 Philistines at Lehi with the jaw of a donkey. Most of the figures carry such a jawbone as a symbol of strength.
