mobility
Road 9, the most important connecting road between Thailand and Vietnam, runs through the province. The Laotian border town is Danhsavanh, the Vietnamese Lao Bao. At this crossing, the border clearance of both countries takes place jointly as a "single-window inspection system". Starting February 15, it will be the first transition between the two countries with this accelerated procedure.
Tourist Attractions
- Dinosaur Museum. In the provincial capital Savannakhet there is the little musee of the dinosaur. Various excavation pieces and dinosaur bones from around 1930 to the present day are presented here. Financed by France when it was founded, which is why most of it is only labeled in Lao and French. The small museum, which also contains many display boards, can be found on Khantabouli Road and is well worth a detour. The museum is north on the road, near the Old Statium.
