The small town Schleiz is 429 m above sea level. NN high in Thuringian part of the Vogtland. It extends to the southwest Thuringian Slate Mountains. Until 1848 the city was the residence of the Schleizer line of the Reuss j.L.

The city was first mentioned in a document in 1232 and Slowitz called. In 1359 it received municipal rights. It suffered a great deal in the Hussite and Thirty Years' War, and most of it burned down in 1689, 1837 and 1856. From the 13th to the 16th century there was a settlement of the Teutonic Order here. On October 9, 1806, a victorious battle for the French under Davout against the Prussians under Tauentzien took place here.

Schleiz no longer has a train connection. The nearest train stations are in Zeulenroda shoot and in Plauen; from there there is a bus connection (line 143).

By bus

The long-distance bus stop (MeinFernbus) is located in the commercial area on the motorway (Industriestrasse 15, near McDonalds).

In the street

West of the city leads the A 9 (BerlinMunich) along; at the departure Symbol: AS 28 Schleiz begins at the same time the short B 282 to Plauen. In the north-south direction Schleiz is also served by the B 2 (Geracourt) streaked; take the B 94 Rodewisch, Greiz and Zeulenroda shoot also ends here.

By bicycle

The Oberland cycle path ends here and comes from Saalburg.

  • 3  Old coin, Neumarkt 13, 07907 Schleiz. The oldest house in town. Johann Friedrich Böttger, the inventor of European porcelain, was born here in 1682. It is located on the market square.

The city is well known for that "Schleizer triangle", the oldest natural race track in Germany. Car and motorcycle races are held here every year.

kitchen

The carp will be in Plothen pond area and specially prepared in the Schleizer Oberland. The portioned and washed carp is cooked in a strongly seasoned root vegetable stock. The brew is processed into sauce with a stoving or sauce cake and refined with brown butter. The specialty is that Thuringian dumplings are served as an accompaniment to carp.
