A holiday on the Alpe di Siusi and the surrounding villages of Castelrotto, Seis, Fiè allo Sciliar and Tiers am Catinaccio leads into the middle of the legendary Dolomites in South Tyrol. The Sciliar (2,563 m, Italian Sciliar, from Ladin Shiliáar), despite its low height, due to its characteristic shape with the two mountain peaks in front, the Santner- (2,413 m) and the Euringerspitze (2,394 m), is a symbol of South Tyrol and namesake of the surrounding region.

The Seiser Alm (Italian Alpe di Siusi, Ladin Mont Sëuc) is the largest high plateau in Europe with 57 km² (8,000 soccer fields) South-Tirol and has always been cultivated by the local population

The rose Garden is the Dolomite massif above Tiers, which is mainly known for its evening glow and, according to legend, is the home of King Laurin. He is said to have owned a rose garden high on the mountain, which becomes visible every evening when the inclined light gives the rose garden a red color. The bus company Silbernagl offers a bus transfer every Saturday from Munich airport and main train station to the Alpe di Siusi and back.

There is also a bus service to the Alpe di Siusi from Bozen, Brixen and Klausen.

By plane

The nearest airport is that of Bolzano (www.abd-airport.it), other airports are located in innsbruck, in Verona and in Munich.

On the Alpe di Siusi

The road to the Seiser Alm landscape protection area is closed to private traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During this time you can reach the Alpe di Siusi with the Alpe di Siusi Railway or by bus. The road is open to private traffic within 9:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. only to Compatsch allowed. Departure from Compatsch is possible at any time. Guests who have booked their holiday in a guest house on the Alpe di Siusi receive the following Special driving license:

  • You can drive to the Alpe di Siusi at any time on the day of arrival and leave the hotel at any time on the day of departure.
  • During your stay you have the opportunity to drive the route from the guest establishment to Compatsch before 10:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. Private traffic is prohibited on the Alpe di Siusi between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. You can obtain a special driving permit either when you arrive at the forest station in St. Valentin, at the Alpe di Siusi tourist office or directly from your host.

However, guests who have booked accommodation on the Alpe di Siusi receive a special permit. Mild winters and pleasant summers characterize the climate in South Tyrol. Thanks to the expanse of the plateau and the location on the south side of the Alps, the Alpe di Siusi holiday region in South Tyrol is extremely sun-kissed: the sun shines 300 days a year. The two altitudes make the Alpe di Siusi holiday region a holiday destination that attractive in every season is: The villages of Castelrotto, Seis, Völs am Schlern and Tiers am Rosengarten are located at an altitude of around 1,000 meters, the Seiser Alm at around 2,000 meters.

Thanks to the altitude and the striking east-west location, the Alpe di Siusi is one of the Snowiest regions in South Tyrol and thus offers skiing and snow fun from December to April.
