Which opened in 1954 Silvretta - High Alpine Road (a toll road operated by Illwerke AG) connects the Montafon with the Paznauntal. The road is 22.5 km long and leads over 32 hairpin bends to the Bielerhöhe with the Silvrettastausee (2030 m), on which there is boat traffic in summer (the only one in Europe at this altitude) and whose ice surface carries the cross-country ski trails in winter. The Silvrettagruppe is a heavily glaciated, crystalline central alpine stock southeast of the Rätikon in the border area between Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Grisons. The highest peaks are the Piz Linard (3411m) and the Fluchthorn (middle summit 3398m). The third highest and most famous mountain is the Piz Buin (3,312 m), also known is the Dreiländerspitze (3,197 m) in the triangle of the aforementioned regions.

getting there

Of Vorarlberg Coming from Bludenz - Montafon, leave the A 14 and take the B 188 through the Montafon to Partenen, the starting point of the Silvretta - High Alpine Road. Of Tyrol from one drives at Landeck - West from the A 12 and through the Paznaun valley on the B 188 to Galtür.

  • 6  Silvretta hut (2,341 m, SAC St. Gallen). Open: Summer: mid-June - mid-October, winter: mid-February - early May.
  • 7  Fergenhütte (2,141 m, self-catering hut SAC Prättigau)
  • 8  Vereina mountain house (1,943 m, private) (in the Vereina valley southwest of the Roggenhorn). Open: late June to mid-October.

Huts north

Huts in the north of the Silvretta or with the easiest approach from the north side:

The hut is a station at the "Transalp 6" (for MTBikers);

Easiest boarding from Ischgl (laborious in 4-5 hours) or: delivery by the hut keeper (by arrangement);
