Syracuse it's an island city italian of Sicily with an interesting mix of modern and old. Syracuse is a city on the east coast of Sicily and the capital of the province of Syracuse, Italy. It was described by Cicero as "the best and most beautiful of the Greek cities".

Syracuse is an ancient city next to the sea, which was very important in Greek times. It has a well-known archaeological zone and a historic center on the island of Ortigia.

Syracuse is a nice city, with tourist attractions for at least a couple of days. It's also a good area to see the southeastern tip of Sicily, including the Baroque cities of Ragusa and Noto, various archaeological sites, and the lively city of Catania.

By train

The train station is in Piazzale Stazione Centrale about 20 minutes walk from the center of the old town.

There are two intercity trains from the peninsula (Rome Y Naples) until Messina and via Catania, arrives in Syracuse.

Travel from Palermo It is complicated, you will need to make at least one transfer, usually in Messina. The trip takes about 6 or 7 hours.

By plane

The closest airport is Catania, north of Syracuse, which offers direct buses to Syracuse. Bus services from the airport are usually scheduled to coincide with incoming and outgoing flights. The duration of the journey is just over an hour. Alternatively, late at night or on holidays, it may be easier to take a bus or taxi from the airport to the Catania train station and then travel by train to Syracuse.

By bus

There are also daily buses to Palermo (Interbus) and long-distance buses to Messina, Naples and Rome.

Syracuse was founded around 734 BC. C., but there was a second wave of construction from 485 a. C. in this area: hence its Greek name Νεοπολη - "Neapoli" or "New City". Theatrical season in the Greek theater: May to July. Throughout these months, they stage dramas by famous authors such as Aeschylus and Euripides.
