Context

Naples is the jewel of southern Italy, the third city in importance and population in this country and one of the most important tourist and historical destinations in it. It is the capital of southern Italy, from which you can also access nearby destinations such as Pompeii, Capri, the Vesuvius wave Amalfi coast. In itself, the historic center of Naples was declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1995, due to the immense artistic and historical heritage that it boasts. In addition to that, it is the birthplace of a recipe as famous as pizza and other gastronomic delicacies, such as napoletano ragout wave parmigiana of aubergines.

It was founded by the Greeks, and after seeing various cultures pass through it, such as the Romans, the Normans and the Lombards, with the Spanish conquest it regained its former splendor, becoming the de facto capital of southern Italy; even more so when his kingdom merged with that of Sicily in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. After the Italian reunification it lost part of its prevalence, but it maintains its importance and its important historical heritage.

Their culture is very similar to that of Spain, more the further south: they like to live on the streets. It is not strange to find people in squares and streets having a drink with friends or simply chatting. Do not be surprised to hear people talking loudly in the street, it is normal. Even if you are totally lost, choose who you ask, in the shops they have no problem helping a clueless tourist. You have to take into account the difference in terms of time between Italy and Spain, although the time is the same, it gets dark about an hour earlier, on average, than in Spain, so life in the city begins to become quieter starting at 8.

Talk

In Naples people talk Italian in case we want to communicate with them, but the common language of the city is the Neapolitan, who will talk to each other and in familiar situations. Even knowing Italian, it will not be possible to understand Neapolitan, as they are two completely different languages.

To eat

It is practically mandatory to try Neapolitan pizza, once we are here. It is here that it was invented with its original recipe, the margarita pizza. Neapolitan pizza has greater consistency than pizzas from other regions, with a dough closer to bread than what we may be used to; In addition, the usual thing in the most traditional places is to find only two variants of this, the most traditional: the famous margarita pizza and the marinara, without mozzarella but with garlic and anchovies. In other places you can find other variants, but for the Neapolitans the authentic and true are only these two. Don't even think about ordering a pizza with pineapple.

Another thing with which we can take a surprise is the mozzarella di buffala campana, the real mozzarella and that does not have much to do with what we can find outside of this region. You have to find a place where they sell real buffalo mozzarella and eat it alone, only then will you appreciate the difference.

In addition to this, you can find many places where they serve typical food: pasta with Neapolitan ragout, with meat over there genovese (made with a lot of onion), ravioli caprese (from Capri), different varieties of fried fish, etc.

The typical desserts of Naples are the slime and the sfogliatella, stuffed with cottage cheese (ricotta) and other ingredients. In addition, as usual, you will have to try the ice creams, the brown cream and the slushies, of many different flavors and available almost in every bar. In this region (in particular, that of Sorrento, near Naples) many lemons are also grown, and here the Limoncello.
