Positano is a city of Campania.
To know
Geographically belonging to the Amalfi Coast.
Geographical notes
Thanks to the mild climate and the beauty of the landscape, Positano has been a holiday resort since the time of the Roman Empire, as evidenced by the discovery of a villa and further findings dating back to 2004. Typical are the many stairways from the top of the town. they come down to the beach. The main beaches are Spiaggia Grande and Fornillo, both within walking distance; the others are La Porta, Arienzo and San Pietro Laurito, all of which can be reached mainly by sea.
When to go
All year round, the city is always full of people, but if you are planning to visit Positano, it would be best to plan your trip during the spring season. The climate is very mild, subtropical; winters are very warm with minimum temperatures that almost never drop below 6 degrees, while summers are long, hot and sunny but often cooled by the sea breeze.
Background
In Roman times it was a holiday resort as evidenced by the discovery of a villa below the church of Santa Maria Assunta. Access to the villa was by sea. From the 10th to the 12th century it was part of the Duchy of Amalfi. From 1806 to 1860 it was the capital of the district of the same name belonging to the Salerno District of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

What see
- Saracen towers. The medieval age saw the construction of numerous towers for the sighting of the Saracens, authors of numerous raids and raids against the local population. The first tower is located outside the municipality of Positanese, in the locality of Punta Campanella, where the Amalfi Coast and the Sorrentine one begins. From there, sighting the Arabs, the first signal was launched, a cannon shot, and from this then the tam tam moved to the second, to the third and then so on, along Positano and the entire Amalfi Coast. In this way the Positanesi could take refuge on the steep hills (thus the hamlets of Montepertuso and Nocelle were created). In fact the Saracens, skilled navigators and fighters, were disadvantaged in entering the heights, and were easily prey to counterattacks by the local population.
- Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
