By plane
There are daily flights out Istanbul and Ankara to Sivas Nuri Demirağ Airport (VAS). Sivas is less frequently served by flights from various other cities in Turkey. In summer there are weekly flights from Amsterdam and Düsseldorf.
By train
Trains from (often only 1 to 2 per day):
- Istanbul, Izmit, Eskişehir (Dogu Express, Güney Express, Vangölü Express)
- Ankara, Kayseri (Doğu Express, Erzurum Express, Güney Express, Vangölü Express, 4 Eylül Mavi Treni). In Kayseri (2015: 10 TL) change direction if necessary Mersin (24½ tsp)
- Batman, Diyarbakir, Malatya (Güney Express, 4 Eylül Mavi Treni)
- Tatvan (at the lake of Van), Mus, Elazig (Vangölü Express)
- Kars, Erzurum, Erzincan (Dogu Express, Erzurum Express)
- Samsun - a local train, several times a day, for which tickets can only be bought on the day of the journey.

By bus
As the Turkish bus system is well developed, Sivas is served by buses from many different cities in Turkey, including Istanbul (70 TL one-way, travel time about 14 hours) and Ankara. Trabzon can be reached in just under 8 hours (2015: 60 TL).

There are several bus routes in the city center.
- 1-A, 1-B, 1-D, 2-A and 2-B drives past the train station.
- Except 6-A, 6-B, 6-C, 11-B and 11-C, all bus routes go to the bus station.
- 6-B, 6-C and 11-B drives past the police headquarters.
- 6-C and 11-B drives past the "Eğriköprü", a historical bridge.
- 2-A and 2-B drive past the "Kesikköprü", a historical bridge.
- 5-A and 5-B drive past the tomb of Abdulvahhabi Gazi.
- 11-B and 11-C goes to Cumhuriyet University.

Tourist Attractions
- Mavi madrasah, northeast of the castle. German: Blue madrasah. The Seljuk building from 1271 was built by the Armenian architect Kaloyan.
- Şifahiye Medresesi. Built in 1218 by Izzedin Keykavus I (Kai Kaus I) as a medical faculty and hospital. The madrasah is a rectangular building, the interior of which is decorated with blue and black tiles. To the right of the stone gate is the sultan's tomb himself.
- Çifte Minare Medresesi. German: Madrasah with double minaret. From AD 1271
- Ulu Camii. German: Great mosque. The city's oldest mosque was built in 1196 AD.
- Ruin of the old Armenian Church of the Holy Cross. The ruin is in the vicinity of Sivas (Armenian: Սուրբ խաչ Sorb Xačʿ) and it contained important relics such as the throne of the Artsruni kings of Vaspurakan.
- Bath Kurşunlu Hamamı. Ottoman building from 1576.
- Kervansaray Behrampaşa Hanı. Built around 1570 AD
