Skawina is a city in the polish Voivodeship Lesser Poland at the foot of the Makov Beskids in the West Beskids foothills (Wieliczka Mountains). The city is located immediately southwest of Krakow and is the starting point for hikes.

background

The place was 1229 received city rights in 1364. At the same time, the Gothic Skawina Castle was built, which was destroyed by the Swedes in 1655. In 1884 Skawina was connected to the rail network around Kraków. In the 1950s, the city was industrialized, which led to rapid population growth. A modern technology park has been located here since 2014, replacing the old industrial operations as the city's most important employer.
