St. Blasien is a climatic health resort and Kneipp health resort in the southern Black Forest. The communities Menzenschwand and Albtal with several other small villages, hamlets and farms belong to St. Blasien. St. Blasien extends from 630 m in the Alb valley over 760 m in the city center to 1350 m in the Feldberg area.

Tourist Attractions

  • 1  St. Blasien Cathedral. The cathedral serves the cath. Parish as a place of worship, it is open daily from 8 am to 6:30 pm in summer, from 8:30 am to 5 pm in winter and can be visited outside of the services. Guided tours are about the cath. Parish office (Tel. 07672/678) possible.
When the Abbey Church of St. Blasien was inaugurated in 1783, it had the third largest church dome in Europe after St. After the fire of 1874, the wooden beams were replaced by a steel structure during the reconstruction. Around 1980 the church was extensively renovated.
The monastery complex serves today as Boarding school.
  • 2  Evangelical Christ Church. The church was built in 1936 according to the plans of Professor Dr. Otto Bartning built in the Black Forest house style. It burned down in 1989 and was rebuilt in 1991 according to the original plans.
  • House of the guest, Am Kurgarten 1-3. Formerly an inn and stables, now the Haus des Gastes and the tourist information office, the museum is located on the upper floor.

  • 4  Schmidt Arkaden house, Hauptstrasse 3, 79837 Sankt Blasien. Formerly a hospital, now a commercial building.
  • 5  Sculpture garden. Most of the sculptures were created at a sculptor symposium.
  • 6  St. Martin Church, Menzenschwand. Modern construction from 1976.
  • 7 Wind mountain waterfall Windberg waterfall, approx. 6 m high, can be reached on a short hike.
  • 8 Menzenschwander waterfalls, north of the village in a gorge of the Menzenschwander Alb, illuminated from May-Oct Wed, Sat and Sun in the evening.
  • 9 Albstausee on the outskirts of St. Blasien, a small reservoir that is part of the Schluchsee pumped storage network.

  • Winter sports: The Spießhorn Menzenschwand ski area offers 3 lifts 2 Rehbach, 3 Mösle and 4 Schwinbach and a total of 80 km of trails, in summer 70 km of hiking trails.
