Waldshut-Tiengen is a twin town in the Baden-Württemberg region Upper Rhine-Lake Constance at the mouth of the Wutach in the Rhine.

The city of Waldshut-Tiengen is on Upper Rhine in the landscapes Hotzenwald and Klettgau. It was created in 1975 through the merger of the towns of Waldshut and Tiengen and the municipality of Gurtweil. In addition to Waldshut and Tiengen, the city now includes 10 other districts.

history

Waldshut was first mentioned in a document in 1256 and was part of Front Austria and stood with it on the side Habsburgs against the confederation, there was a siege in 1468. A little later, the city joined the Reformation, after many city citizens had joined the Anabaptist direction, the Reformation was crushed and the Anabaptist and Reformed citizens were expropriated and expelled from the city. In the following centuries, the border town to the Confederation was repeatedly the scene of Fighting between Austrian, Bavarian and French rule, with the municipal reform, the city, which was united with Tiengen in 1975, rose to become a major district town.

Tiengen was the royal seat in the Klettgau, a foundation of the Krenkinger, then came to the by inheritance Count of Sulz and finally to the Prince Schwarzenberg.

The line P 41 of Zurich Transport Association connects Waldshut-Tiengen via Koblenz AG and Bad Zurzach With Bulach and Winterthur.
There is also the S27 Koblenz AG and further after Baden AGwhere to look Zurich can change.

The Wutach Valley Railway (also known as Sauschwänzlebahn) connects wheat with Blumberg. It is operated in the summer months as a museum railway with steam locomotives and historical rolling stock (feeder trips from Waldshut).

By bus

From the community Südbadenbus bus connections to all larger towns in the area are ensured, the Bike bus brings cyclists from Waldshut St. Blasien, in the Hotzenwald and along the Wutach Gorge.

Waldshut is located on the B34Basel (CH) - Rheinfelden - Bad Säckingen - Laufenburg - Waldshut - Tiengen - Klettgau (Erzingen) - Schaffhausen (CH).

With the Bürgerwaldtunnel at Tiengen there is a connection to a section of the A 98 motorway

To the east of the place is the Rhine bridge to Koblenz (AG) one of the most important border crossings in the region, especially in the morning in the direction of Switzerland and in the evening in the direction of Waldshut, there are often long traffic jams. Truck handling was improved in 2014 with new buildings.
