Laufenburg (Baden) is a city on the right bank of the High Rhine, it is located on the southern edge of the Hotzenwaldes.
background
The name Laufenburg goes back to the as little running designated rapids in the Upper Rhine. However, these were in connection with the construction of the Laufenburg hydropower plant blown up / flooded and are no longer there. The place Laufenburg was first mentioned in 1173. In 1315 Laufenburg received city rights. In 1801 Laufenburg was divided into a Swiss part Großlaufenburg, today Laufenburg AG, and in a part of Baden Kleinlaufenburg, since 1930 as Laufenburg (Baden) designated.
In the course of a community reform around 1975, the formerly independent towns of Binzgen, Grunholz, Hauenstein, Hochsal, Luttingen, Rotzel and Stadenhausen were incorporated into Laufenburg. Neighboring places are Murg, Rickenbach, Görwihl and Albbruck and primarily the sister city Laufenburg AG.
