Sulzburg is a small town in Markgräflerland, it lies on the edge of the southern Black Forest and belongs to the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald.

Sulzburg is an old mining town in the valley of the Sulzbach, its coat of arms shows a miner in front of a tunnel, an angel watches over it. Since the municipal reform in 1975, the wine villages of Laufen and St. Ilgen have belonged to Sulzburg.

Neighboring places are Ballrechte-Dottingen, Staufen, Munster Valley, Muellheim, Badenweiler and Buggingen, they all belong to the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald.

The branch of the Münstertalbahn leading to Sulzburg was shut down in 1969. The next train stations are in Staufen and in Heitersheim

Sulzburg can only be reached via one public road: the K 4941 comes from Heitersheim, it ends in the valley of the Sulzbach near the Waldhotel Bad Sulzburg about 4 km southeast of the village. The district of Laufen can also be reached via the L 125
