Sohrewald is a municipality in northern Hesse, about 13 km southeast of Kassel. The three districts are largely surrounded by mixed forest and coniferous forest and are embedded in the valley of the surrounding Hessian low mountain range.
background
The municipality of Söhrewald was created in 1970 through the voluntary amalgamation of the formerly independent municipalities of Eiterhagen, Wattenbach and Wellerode. The seat of the municipal administration is in the district of Wellerode. For a long time, lignite was mined in open-cast mining between the districts of Wellerode and Wattenbach. Until 1966 Wellerode was connected with the Söhrebahn by a railway line with Kassel. The former route is now a hiking and cycling path and will eventually be in Lohfelden interrupted because it was built there in the meantime.

The commercial airport in the north of Kassel Kassel-Calden only offers a few charter connections.
The nearest commercial airports are the Frankfurt am Main airport, the Hanover Airport.
By train
From Long-distance train station in Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe you can reach Söhrewald by tram to the Kassel Königsplatz stop and then with the 37 bus from the Königsplatz / Mauerstraße stop. At the weekend the bus line 37 leaves from Platz der Deutschen Einheit and there is night bus service on Saturday and Sunday nights. Traffic information from the NVV

From Kassel via the L 3226 and from Guxhagen via the L 3460.
On foot
Among other things, the hiking trails run through Söhrewald Kassel-Steig, Grimmsteig and Eco path mining in the Söhre.

Between the districts of Wellerode and Wattenbach is on the so-called fire a parking lot and from there, if the weather conditions allow, a cross-country ski run is groomed.
- The premium hiking trail P 24 can be walked from 4 km or 15 km.

In the district of Wattenbach there is an outdoor pool with the forest swimming pool. There are also sports fields and lakes (e.g. Stellbergsee) for swimming in the community or within easy reach.
