places

background

Toggenburg is a rural, structurally weak region and is still heavily influenced by agriculture. Here you can experience a piece of picture-perfect Switzerland. The valley does not attract many international tourists, but it is very popular as a local excursion destination, especially by residents of the agglomerations of Zurich and St. Gallen who want to escape into the countryside at the weekend.

Winter sports areas

  • Obertoggenburg The ski areas Underwater Iltios Chäserrugg, Alt St. Johann – Sellamatt and Wildhaus-Gamsalp are connected to each other. and can be used with the same ski pass. Together they offer an attractive winter sports area for skiers and snowboarders. The number of lifts and kilometers of slopes is certainly not as good as that of the very large Swiss ski areas such as Davos, St. Moritz or Grindelwald. On the other hand, things are a little more relaxed in Toggenburg and the slopes feel a little more natural. The Toggenburg is not very high (highest point in the ski area 2262 m above sea level), but it is quite snowy.
  • Wolzenalp sports railway in Krummenau
  • Tanzboden ski lift in Ebnat-Kappel

Trails

  • Obertoggenburg
  • Bendel / Hemberg
