Wattwil is a place in the canton of St. Gallen and is regarded as the capital of Toggenburg.

Wattwil is the capital of the Toggenburgs respected, although since the regional reform of 2003 there are no more districts and therefore no district capitals either.
The place Wattwil is mentioned for the first time in 897, as Wattinwilare, which can be translated as Homestead of Watto. During the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, Wattwil was an important textile industry, as evidenced by many mostly empty industrial buildings.
The Wattwil community includes the districts of Wattwil, Krinau, Ricken, Bleiken, Scheftenau, Bunt, Hochsteig, Chrummbach / Heiterswil, Hummelwald, Schönenberg, Steintal, Laad, Ulisbach, Schmidberg and Hänsenberg.

The1 railway station Wattwil is a railway junction. They run from here Southeast Railway to Lichtensteig–Wil, through the eight kilometer long Rickentunnel to Uznach, to Lichtensteig–St. Gallen and ins Obertoggenburg to Nesslau. In addition, Wattwil has a local bus that runs between Ebnat-Kappel and Lichtensteig serves the various hamlets, and the LinthBus courses via the Rickenpass to Rapperswil as well as the Postbus course to Hemberg.
