Eastern Tokyo is largely residential and industrial. In October 2018, the new Toyosu Market opens in Kōtō, replacing the Tsukiji Market.

These districts are located in the eastern part of Tokyo. Kōtō it is a seaside district that matches the port area. Edogawa is separated from Kōtō from the Arakawa River which in turn also separates Katsushika is Adachi from central Tokyo as well as from Arakawa which of all the districts is further west. The eastern boundary of the districts and Tokyo is the Edogawa River.

Mon-Sat 05: 00-17: 00, closed on holidays and some Wednesdays. This is the new Tokyo wholesale market location for seafood and produce after its relocation from Tsukiji. Unlike the old structure where tourists could almost get close to the fish, Toyosu Market has large enclosed observation points and paths dedicated to tourists to see the place, including the famous tuna auctions. However, the observation deck for tuna auctions will be closed to the public until January 15, 2019.

The result of a recent renovation, this intimate museum features a beautifully recreated neighborhood (1830-1843), complete with houses, shops, narrow alleys and even the local landfill. Wandering, scanning the windows and entering the buildings furnished with home objects and bric-à-brac from the Edo era. The light and sound effects create the illusion of an entire day that passes from day to night in the space of a few minutes. Take him on a visit to the huge Edo-Tokyo museum in the nearby Sumida district, just a couple of stops on the Toedo Toei subway line.

). Katsushika-ku, is characterized by the Taishakuten temple (帝 釈 天) with its cozy shopping street it rivals Asakusa in a lively and much more authentic way, devoid of overseas tourist kitsch. The district's biggest claim is the scenography of Otoko wa tsurai y, Japan's longest-running film series, and the hero of the series, Tora-san, can be seen every block from the life-size statue in front of the train station to caricatures and movie posters in every store. Along the river beyond the temple is a museum dedicated to the film series, as well as a rowboat that transports passengers between the banks (¥ 100 a ticket), the last of its kind in Tokyo. You may want to cover the 7 of, a series of temples around the neighborhood, getting a free map at the station.

free. The largest park in central Tokyo, located just across the Edogawa River from the Tokyo Disney Resort. Opened in 1989, the park was built on reclaimed land and developed in an effort to restore and preserve the natural habitat of Tokyo Bay. The park offers a pleasant respite from the surrounding cityscapes and has a number of trails that crisscross the gardens, lawns and beaches. In addition, the park is home to an aquarium, a Ferris wheel, a seabird sanctuary and a viewing tower. There are a number of ferries (waterbuses) that serve the park. During the winter and on weekdays there are four daily departures to Odaiba, with the last one continuing to Ryogoku. Summer and weekends have more frequent departures. Ferries operate only in the afternoon.

The park's most visible landmark is the Diamond and Flower Ferris Wheel, so named for its light shows that give it the appearance of a sparkling diamond or flower. 117 meters high, it is the second tallest Ferris wheel in Japan. The top offers views of Tokyo Bay, Tokyo Disney Resorts, Chiba and up to Mt. Fuji.

How to have fun

Monja-yaki (も ん じ ゃ 焼 き) is a specialty of the Kanto area, similar to okonomiyaki. Once upon a time people used to make words with the ingredients on the hot plate to have fun before eating because Monja-yaki means "word". The basic batter of the Monja-yaki it is made from water, flour and soy sauce. Ingredients can include cabbage, shredded potato, chopped tempura, cuttlefish, shrimp, slices of meat, and so on. Though Tsukishima is Tokyo's most famous district for monjayaki, it is popular here too.
