Västra Götaland - one of Swedish territorial regions (Swedish län). It borders on the regions Värmland, Örebro, Östergötland, Jönköping and Halland, as well as from the territory Norway (district Østfold), with lakes Wetter and Wener and with the sea (Skagerrak in the northern and central parts of the coast and the Kattegat in the south). The seat of its authorities (residensstad) is Gothenburg.

The Västra Götaland region is situated on the west coast of Sweden, in the western part of Götaland. The region includes the entire historical province (landskap) of Bohuslän, major parts of Västergötland and Dalsland, and parts of Värmland and Halland.
