Vaterstetten is the most populous municipality in the Upper Bavarian District of Ebersberg. It is located in the Munich area approx. 17 km east of the state capital Munich and 18 km west of the district town of Ebersberg. It is one of 13 so-called efficient municipalities in Bavaria and since 2011 the most populous municipality in Bavaria that has neither town nor market rights.
