Munich area - Münchner Umland

The Munich area located in Upper Bavaria and essentially corresponds to the counties Munich, Dachau, Freising, Erding and Fürstenfeldbruck.

In the West Munich:

  • Dachau with the castle and the concentration camp memorial;

  • Freising With Dom and Weihenstephan, the oldest brewery in the world.
  • Vaterstetten (528 m), with the other districts of Baldham, Neufarn, Purfing, Weißenfeld, Parsdorf, Hergolding.
  • Isen with the church of St. Zeno, which is well worth seeing.

In the North Munich:

In the south Munich:

Other goals

  • Poing Wildlife Park, shows a wide range of European animal species, such as deer, wolves and bears. Especially suitable as an excursion destination with children.

In the Munich area, German is spoken predominantly, as well as Upper Bavarian dialect, which, however, has regional differences.

getting there

Most destinations in the Munich area can be reached from the city center by S-Bahn. in the Munich Transport Association A uniform tariff system applies, which also extends to municipalities outside of the city. While the S-Bahn mainly serves the larger cities, there is also an extensive bus network.

By car

Various motorways and federal highways run through the Munich area.

By plane

The MVV is responsible for the local transport connection. The regional buses run very differently and sometimes there are several timetable routes, which are intended for school trips, for example.

  • Bonnets are a culinary specialty in Upper Isental. It is a piquant lard pastry seasoned with caraway seeds, made from a yeast beer batter, mixed with wheat and rye flour. The Hauberlinge are served as a side dish to Saurem Lüngerl, game ragout or sauerkraut. They are offered in inns, bakeries and farmers' markets.
