Villages is a small town in the east of the region Munich area.

background

Dorfen was first mentioned in a document in 773, this also applies to Oberdorf, as no distinction was made between Dorfen and Oberdorf. Dorfen was systematically established around 1230 by Duke Ludwig the Kelheimer, as a base against the bishopric of Freising (rule of Burgrain) and against the county of Haag and as an economic center for the area between Erding, Landshut, Wasserburg am Inn and Mühldorf am Inn. Between 1229 and 1237 the place was given market rights by his successor, Duke Otto II the illustrious. The Lower Bavarian dukes endowed the market with rights and freedoms and in 1331 granted it the Landshut market rights with numerous improvements over the earlier privileges. Dorfen became the seat of a district judge and was given independent lower jurisdiction and civil self-government in 1324 and 1331 - so that the village of the 13th and 14th centuries was in no way inferior to the cities of the time in terms of its layout and economic life The Swedes occupied the market in 1632 and 1634, looted, murdered and burned the houses. In its wake appeared the plague, which wiped out a third of the remaining population. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Dorfen was one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in southern Bavaria, together with the Mother of Grace von Dorfen. Around 1885/90 the Hague Gate was demolished and the ramparts removed and the moat filled in and made as a footpath. In 1910 the “Dorfner Beer War” took place: When the Maß beer was supposed to be two pfennigs more expensive due to a malt surcharge, the people's soul was boiling. Strikes and calls for boycotts continued to fuel the mood. The farms of the two breweries went up in flames as a result of arson, and the fire spread to other houses. In Munich pioneers were put on standby, but they were not used because the price increase was withdrawn. Several arrests and criminal proceedings ended the unrest. In the 1920s, after a devastating flood, the Isen, which had previously loops around the market, was straightened. In the years after 1945, the Moosener Siedlung, Isener Siedlung and the Lerchenhuber Siedlung, which together have around 2500 residents, developed. On November 10, 1954, Dorfen was elevated to a city by the Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Wilhelm Hoegner.

Buildings / churches

  • 1 City Church of the Assumption of Mary The pilgrimage church was rebuilt in 1783/84 after the nave vault collapsed, incorporating late Gothic parts of the building in the early classical style. The Marienleben ceiling frescoes (angel concert, birth of the Virgin Mary, Visitation of the Virgin Mary, representation of Jesus in the temple, Assumption of Mary) were made by Johann Huber. Excellent figures of the Twelve Apostles (partly by Christian Jorhan the Elder) are attached to the pillars. The most important work of art, although only a reconstruction, is the high altar. The original late baroque altar (1748/49) by Egid Quirin Asam was demolished in 1868 and replaced by a neo-Romanesque altar. Pastor Hermann Eigner had it reconstructed from 1963-71.
  • 2 Market Church of St. Veit, early late Gothic building from 1390. Baroque expansion in the 17th and 18th centuries. Three-bay nave with a baroque flat plaster ceiling and a two-bay choir with a 3/8 end and Gothic barrel vault. The most valuable is the ceiling fresco with the historical depiction of the site from 1799.
  • 3 Assumption of Mary Schwindkirchen (4½ km wsw.), Today's church building was erected in 1782/83 by the Munich court architect Leonhard Matthäus Gießl in place of a Gothic predecessor building from which the Spitzhelm church tower was taken over. A church was built in the transitional style from late Rococo to early classicism. The nave has three bays with bevels to the choir and has a slatted vault and the choir has two bays with a semicircular end. The stucco work was done by court plasterer Franz Xaver Feichtmayr and the ceiling paintings were made by court painter Christian Wink. The way of the cross was made by the court painter F.I. Oefele, the frame of which comes from the old church. The high altar was created by Anton Fackler (Dorfen), the sculptural work for it comes from Christian Jorhan the Elder from Landshut. The nave fresco depicts the Annunciation and the Coronation in the choir. The high altar picture, taken from the old church, shows the Assumption of Mary. The side altars were made by Chr. Jorhan the Elder. Elder

It is a building from 1706 with a rich baroque facade and delicate roof turrets. On the altar the miraculous image based on the Altöttinger Madonna; 7 Chapel of the Shoulder Wounds Christ Located to the south of the parish church, is a late baroque building from 1715. The chapel had a 3/8 end in the east at today's entrance, as old views show. Inside are the figures of the former neo-Romanesque high altar of the parish church.

Palace Chapel Our Lady, circular central building with pilaster strips and conical roof, around 1720; with equipment.
  • 10 former Wasentegernbach Castle, 3½ km to the east is what was left of the once stately built by the Lords of Wasentegernbach and the remodeled by the Prince Provost of Berchtesgaden (1582), which almost resembled a new building. Because during the secularization, the building (including ancillary buildings and chapel) was razed down to the one or two lower floors and heavily rebuilt in the period that followed. Today the stately building has three storeys and a simple saddle roof and looks like a large old house. The castle is now privately owned and holiday apartments are rented out.

In this function (children's home / day care center) it still serves today.
