Moosburg a.d. Isar (Moosburg an der Isar) is a small town in the district Freising in the Munich Surrounding area Munich in Upper Bavaria. Moosburg lies between Freising and Landshut.
background
Moosburg is located near the confluence of the Isar and Amper rivers. As early as the year 770, a Carolingian monastery, later elevated to an imperial abbey, was found here, which contained the relics of St. Kastulus hid, but was relocated to Landshut in 1599. The castle of the Counts of Moosburg later became the building of the district court, which still exists today as a branch of the Landshut district court. Moosburg has been called a city since the 14th century. In the 1920s, the Mittlere-Isar Canal was opened, which leads from Munich to Moosburg and is used to generate electricity; at the same time, larger industrial companies such as Südchemie were settled. During the Second World War there was a large prisoner-of-war camp near Moosburg, from which the Neustadt district developed.
