  • Storage options vary depending on the local conditions. For example, exist on Cologne as well as on Bonn Central Station Bike stations, which is manned by staff, this is theft-proof, chargeable and offers other services such as bike rental and repairs.
  • Bicycle boxes are theft and weather-proof storage options, these are chargeable and, unlike bicycle stations, require permanent use and registration.
  • Bicycle hangers are the most common form of the bike-and-ride system. These can be used free of charge and without registration and are less theft-proof. With regular use, care should be taken to change the parking spaces frequently, on the one hand this discourages bicycle thieves, on the other hand it prevents misunderstandings, since if the same parking space is used continuously, the regulatory authorities suspect that the corresponding bikes are "dead bicycles" and could therefore remove them. Bicycle hangers are often misused as unofficial disposal sites, this leads to annoyance for cycling, as this blocks parking spaces, so bicycle corpses can be reported to the regulatory authorities and removed by them.
