The Via Turonensis(or Way of Tours) is one of the four main French pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. Starting from the bell tower of the old church of Saint-Jacques-la-Boucherie in Paris, it links in its current version Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in the French Basque Country, via Orleans, Poitiers, Bordeaux and especially Tours which gave its name to the path.

Understand

Markup

In France, the Via Turonensis is listed by the Fédération Française de Randonnée Pédestre under the name GR 655. The markings therefore follow the color code of French long-distance hiking trails, namely white and red. Depending on the region, it can also be supplemented by a color code specific to the ways of Saint James, namely blue and yellow.
